Girl Meets World: NYC Edition

This summer , my sister, our friend, and I took a very interesting vacation together. After a year of planning and saving, it was decided we would visit New York, Virginia, and Florida--all for very different reasons. But this post is about New York and our adventures there.
It started on July 16th at 11:00 a.m. when the three of us met at the airport. Ahead of us, we had a 3-hour fight to Japan, a 13-hour flight to Washington, and a 1-hour flight to New York. When at last we reached La Guardia Airport, NY, and took our shuttle to our B&B in Washington Heights, we were very ready to 1) eat real food, and 2) sleep horizontally. Our B&B host was wonderful and had bacon and orange juice waiting for us.

The very next day, we went out on the town. We purchased 1-week subway passes and started in Time Square and worked our way out from there. It was surreal to be standing in a place I had only ever seen on screen. We got the hang of New York-living fairly easy. We kept to ourselves and walked on the correct side of the sidewalk--stuff you wouldn't normally do back home. We spent a total of 8 days in Manhattan, which, in my opinion, was just the right amount of time. We did all the usual tourist stuff: saw a show, rode the Staten Island Ferry, ate at some famous restaurants, but, out of all the places we visited, my favourites where Central Park and the 9/11 Museum.
The 9/11 museum was an unforgettable, almost frightening experience. We toured a room full of artifacts and photos while the victims' stories were narrated by the New York Fire Department photographer who was on scene after the attack. I intend to post the complete story of our time there and what we saw.
My only regret was that I didn't spend enough time in Central Park. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. Like a scene from a movie, there were people riding bikes, napping under trees, racing boats in the ponds. I will certainly be returning to New York as there is still much more to see! Bucket list item number 2: CHECK!
